The 8 Most Anticipated Books of 2022

The 8 Most Anticipated Books of 2022

The beginning of every new year poses a big challenge for me.

On the one hand, there’s a great variety of new books coming out. They reflect recent events, share authors’ worldviews and are full of fresh ideas.

On the other hand, there are many great books that have already been written. I think it’s safe to say that every avid reader has a hefty back catalog that only gets bigger with time, no matter how much they read.

To overcome the dilemma of what to read next, I alternate between classic books and new releases. 2022 is all about the new!

I have compiled a list of the books I am most excited about this year. I have tried to cover as much ground as possible genre-wise to appeal to a wider variety of tastes.

Here we go!

1. One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

This novel tells the story of a woman named Kathy who spends her holiday in Italy and meets her mother, Carol, who was supposed to be deceased. What’s more, Kathy sees the version of Carol from 30 years ago.

2. The Candy House by Jennifer Egan

Set in a future where it’s possible to extract and save human memories externally. Memories can be downloaded, borrowed, and even sold.

3. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

This is a science-fiction time-travel story that spans 300 years and outlines how humanity can change and evolve.

4. Funny Farm: My Unexpected Life with 600 Rescue Animals by Laurie Zaleski

In her book, Laurie Zaleski describes how she established a non-profit animal rescue at her 15-acre farm to fulfill her late mother’s dream.

5. Index, A History of the: A Bookish Adventure from Medieval Manuscripts to the Digital Age by Dennis Duncan

This book studies the history of indexing, from way back in the 13th century to the modern day. It explores crucial changes that make today’s powerful search engines possible.

6. End of the World House by Adrienne Celt

This novel is about two friends trying to save their friendship by going to Paris. They end up stuck in the Louvre in some sort of time loop and must figure out how to reunite.

7. Rouge Street: Three Novellas by Shuang Xuetao

This is a collection of three separate stories set in the same city in northeast China. These stories feature the inventor of dreams, a criminal trapped in a frozen lake, and a girl who wants to burn a field of sorghum stalks.

8. Seven Steeples by Sara Baume

This a story about two companions who decide to escape their regular boring lives. They choose to retreat into the Irish countryside to get as far from society as possible.
